Why a Book?
The New York Times says that 81% of people think they have a book in them, which is actually 75% who believe there is a book that they’d like to write 6% who actually believe there is am actual book inside of them.
But seriously folks, in reality most people would like to write a book and/or open a restaurant. Since I have minimal knowledge of the restaurant business, let’s stick with the book idea.
Writing a book means having a documented tangible (or electronic version) of your thoughts, feelings and/or stories. It is something you can take pride in having and in showing other people. But a book is more than that – Here are three key reasons why a book can be of great benefit.
1 – A book can allow you to display your expertise
If you are a doctor, dentist, financial planner, gardener, plumber, fisherman, collector of classic cars or have expertise in any field, you can benefit from having a book. Quite simply, a book elevates your stature and makes you the go to expert for television interviews, webinars, seminars and interviews for all kinds of articles and blogs. In addition, if you are a speaker, you can increase your number of bookings and raise your speaker fees. Few people become the Bob Villa or Martha Stewart of their chosen fields, but you take a giant step in their direction by having a book of your own as you become prominently known as “the expert.”
2 – A book can help you market your business or brand
Restaurants, hotels, major stores and even small businesses have books out that tell their stories and serve as significant marketing tools. Weather you are telling the story of growing a business from your garage into a multi-million dollar company or explaining how you became the greenest business in your industry, you can increase brand awareness with a book. Businesses with rich histories, such as long standing resorts often have books recounting their founding and growth through the years. Corporate books provide readers with a glimpse into the inner working of a company while displaying transparency. Business books are a means of generating both awareness and sales.
3 – A book can let you to tell your story
Many people have led extraordinary lives. A book can recount the stories of courage, bravery or overcoming obstacles to get to where you are today. It can also serve to bridge generations; preserve a rich family history or capture, in words, what makes you, your family, friends and /or community special. Stories are plentiful and books continue to capture in words that which we wish to preserve.
